Dhaka: Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate an additional flight on the Dhaka-Madina-Dhaka route every Sunday from February 2 to meet the high demand of passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia. ‘We have decided to operate an additional weekly flight to Madina following a request from ATAB,’ Biman’s Managing Director and CEO Dr. Md Shafiqur Rahman told BSS today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made after an emergency meeting between Biman and a delegation from the Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB), led by its president, Abdus Salam Aref. The meeting concentrated on addressing the increase in airfares, particularly for destinations in the Middle East.
In response to ATAB’s appeal, the national flag carrier decided to introduce the additional flight to relieve the pressure on the Dhaka-Madina route. ATAB emphasized that the bulk sale and hoarding of tickets by airlines, without requiring names, passports, or visas, have considerably contributed to the rise in ticket prices.
