Dhaka: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has implemented special security measures nationwide, focusing on the Central Shaheed Minar, to ensure a peaceful observation of International Mother Language Day 2025. A press release from RAB indicated that a sufficient number of personnel have been deployed throughout the country, including in Dhaka, to prevent any potential chaos or unexpected incidents during the observance.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, RAB has reinforced security across Shaheed Minar locations in metropolitan areas, divisional cities, districts, and upazilas. This effort aims to prevent any untoward situations. CCTV and IP cameras, along with monitoring centers, have been installed around the Central Shaheed Minar area to ensure comprehensive video surveillance.
The security measures, established in coordination with other law enforcement and intelligence agencies, have been strengthened ahead of February 21 by reviewing potential risks. Each RAB battalion has been tasked with ensuring foolproof security within their jurisdictions. RAB-3 is responsible for overseeing overall security at the Central Shaheed Minar by setting up observation and check posts, working in tandem with other law enforcement agencies.
RAB’s Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad will conduct thorough sweeps of the Central Shaheed Minar. Check posts will be established at all intersections leading to the site to enhance security. Furthermore, RAB will focus on safeguarding women and children visiting the Shaheed Minar and other venues, preventing harassment.
A RAB Cyber Monitoring Team will maintain continuous online surveillance to prevent the spread of rumors, provocative information, or false news. Security will be coordinated with local public representatives and law enforcement agencies through control rooms in each jurisdiction. The overall security operation, including in Dhaka, will be monitored from the RAB headquarters.
RAB is committed to preventing members of banned groups or organizations from entering the Shaheed Minar area to ensure no disruption occurs. The agency has sought public cooperation to maintain law and order during the commemoration of Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day 2025.
