Birgunj: The team Birgunj United Club has won the opening match of the Second Birgunj Gold Cup 2081 that started on Saturday. In the match played at the Adarshanagar Stadium, host Birgunj United defeated Garwal Diamond Football Club Delhi with a scoreline of 1-0.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the decisive goal came from Diamond Football Club’s striker Sandip Rana, who inadvertently made a suicide goal, sealing the victory for Birgunj United. The tournament continues with Sankata Football Club and Sahalesh Football Club Siraha scheduled to play on Sunday.
Earlier, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City Rajeshman Singh inaugurated the tournament, expressing hope that it would contribute positively to the city’s tourism, social life, and economic activities. The tournament offers significant rewards, with the title winner set to receive Rs 1,111,111 in cash, along with a trophy and medals. The runner-up will receive Rs 555,555, a trophy, and medals.
Additionally, individual accolades are also on offer, with the outstanding player of the tournament set to be awarded a scooter. The best goalkeeper and coach will each receive Rs 20,000, while the player of the match in every game will be awarded Rs 10,000.
