Nepal at High Risk of Disaster: Agriculture Minister


Colombo: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has stated that Nepal is at high risk of disaster. Addressing the regional ministerial-level meeting on the ‘Integrated Early Warning and Early Action System’ in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Minister Adhikari highlighted the various disasters that threaten Nepal due to its geographical location.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Adhikari shared that Nepal experiences significant infrastructural and economic losses annually due to disasters such as flooding, drought, cold waves, lightning, and glacial outbursts. He emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the development of robust pre-warning systems to enhance climate resilience.



The meeting, which was a collaborative effort by the Sri Lankan government and the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES), focused on discussions related to risk, early warning systems, and coordinated efforts for risk preparedness in both African and Asian countries.
