Coliform Bacteria Found in Water at KMC’s Central Office

Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 on the supplier following the detection of coliform bacteria in the drinking water used at the KMC’s central office. The presence of these bacteria has raised concerns over the water quality being provided to the office.

According to National News Agency Nepal, KMC has terminated its contract with CN Enterprises, the supplier responsible for the compromised water quality. The decision to end the agreement was made at the Chief Administrator level as part of KMC’s efforts to ensure safe drinking water standards.

Nurnidhi Neupane, Chief of KMC’s Department of Agriculture and Livestock, stated that a technical examination revealed the presence of coliform bacteria in the water at the KMC office. Coliform bacteria are typically found in the digestive tracts of animals, including humans, and in their waste, indicating potential contamination.

The KMC’s action underscores the importance of maintaining stringent standards for essential services like drinking water, particularly in public offices that serve as key administrative centers.
