Pokhara: A modern aviation fuel depot has been constructed at Pokhara International Airport, marking a significant development in the airport’s infrastructure.
According to National News Agency Nepal, this new facility was constructed by the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) entirely with domestic resources. The depot has a storage capacity of 3.6 million liters of fuel, a feature that was highlighted during a press conference organized by NOC. This initiative underscores the country’s growing capability to undertake large infrastructure projects using local expertise and investment.
Project chief Pradip Yadav emphasized that the technologically equipped facility is designed to ensure a reliable supply of fuel for both domestic and international flights operating in and out of Pokhara International Airport. The depot consists of three vertical storage tanks, each with a capacity of 1,200 kiloliters, standing 12 meters high and 12 meters wide.
Yadav noted that this is the first time in its 55-year history that NOC has constructed such a depot independently. The entire project utilized domestic technology, construction firms, consultants, contractors, and financial resources, demonstrating Nepal’s self-reliance in handling significant infrastructure projects.
The project was completed on schedule, with the foundation stone laid on July 17, 2023, and the storage tanks becoming operational from August. The construction cost, excluding VAT, was Rs 750 million, highlighting the project’s efficient management and execution.
