Kathmandu: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) and Malaysia-Nepal Business Council held a discussion on the expansion and promotion of investment in the Nepal-Malaysia business sector and mutual cooperation.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the discussion, which took place at the FNCCI secretariat on Thursday, covered a range of issues including bilateral trade, investment promotion, expansion of tourism activities, construction, and cooperation in the agriculture, energy, IT, and service sectors.
FNCCI officials highlighted to the Malaysian counterparts the various opportunities for expanding Nepal-Malaysia cooperation in business. Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha emphasized that regional cooperation is a priority for Nepal, particularly through organizations such as SAARC and BIMSTEC. He also mentioned Nepal’s intent to reduce trade losses with Malaysia by increasing exports and attracting further Malaysian investment.
The private sector in Malaysia could play a crucial role in connecting Nepal with ASEAN, Shrestha noted. He pointed out that Nepal has created an investment-friendly environment by amending eight relevant Acts. “FNCCI is ready to facilitate foreign businesspersons willing to invest in Nepal’s potential sectors,” Shrestha assured.
Council’s Chairperson Pradeep Kumar Kukreja remarked on the significant potential for investment and business promotion between Malaysia and Nepal. He noted Malaysia’s advancements in infrastructure development, IT, and tourism, and expressed readiness to cooperate with Nepal in these areas. “The Council is also prepared to facilitate investment by Malaysian businesspersons,” Chairperson Kukreja affirmed.
