Bhimdutta: Bhimdutta municipality in the district has distributed rescue equipment to its five wards which are vulnerable to disaster. The Forest, Environment and Disaster Management Committee of the municipality on Friday distributed rescue materials like life jackets, belts, rubber tubes, torchlight, helmets, and stretchers to ward no 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13, said Committee Coordinator Prakash Thapa.
According to National News Agency Nepal, these wards are located downstream of the Mahakali River and face significant vulnerability to river flooding. “The government has declared these wards as disaster vulnerable areas and disaster preparedness has been forwarded accordingly,” Thapa stated, expressing hope that the materials would assist in rescue operations during disasters.
Ward Chairperson of Bhimdutta municipality-12, Bhupendra Singh Rawal, highlighted that these wards are mostly affected by Mahakali River floods. “We have been involved in preparedness as the government has already declared these places as disaster vulnerable areas. The Nepali Army is now constructing embankments along the Mahakali River to protect the settlements from floods,” he added.
The Home Ministry had declared five wards of the municipality as disaster vulnerable areas on May 20.
