Kathmandu: A delegation led by Chen Xiaodong, the chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today at his residence in Baluwatar. The discussions focused on enhancing mutual relations between Nepal and China, reviewing the bilateral agreement reached at the Ministry of Finance, and implementing previously signed agreements on development cooperation during past high-level visits.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Prime Minister Oli emphasized Nepal’s longstanding commitment to the One China policy and expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for prioritizing the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged by flash floods at the Rasuwagadhi border. He noted that Nepal is expediting efforts to restore these structures and stressed the importance of maintaining uninterrupted operations at the Kimathangka and other border transit points. Furthermore, PM Oli highlighted the significance of projects under the ‘Belt and Road Initiative Framework’ to transform Nepal from being land-locked to land-linked.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister’s chief advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, economic development advisor Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song. The Chinese delegation had also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel earlier, discussing ongoing and future projects supported by China.
During the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, a memorandum of understanding was signed for a bone marrow transplantation project at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Chitwan. Additionally, a feasibility study for the expansion of the Civil Service Hospital was agreed upon. The two countries also signed a memorandum on human resource development and a ‘minute’ concerning the feasibility study for the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung cross-border electricity transmission line.
