Nepali Congress President Highlights BP Koirala’s Lasting Influence on Nepal’s Politics


Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized that Nepal’s political landscape is rooted in the national reconciliation policy formulated by the late BP Koirala.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Deuba made these remarks during a program commemorating the 43rd BP Memorial Day, organized by BP Memorial Hospital, BP Memorial Foundation, and the Sports Department of the Nepali Congress. He asserted that BP Koirala’s policy of reconciliation remains pertinent to the country’s political fabric.



Deuba paid tribute to BP Koirala, the founder of the Nepali Congress and Nepal’s first democratically elected Prime Minister, highlighting his unwavering commitment to democracy and his sacrifices for the nation. He reiterated BP Koirala’s belief that national sovereignty and prosperity are achievable through a strong Congress and the unification of national forces.



The NC President further noted BP Koirala’s conviction that national unity, prosperity, and social harmony surpass political interests. He praised Koirala not only as a political icon but also as a literary figure and a proponent of democratic socialism.



Deuba reflected on BP Koirala’s return to Nepal from exile in India, where he had been resisting the authoritarian Panchayat system. He emphasized that the current status of the Nepali Congress is a testament to BP Koirala’s enduring principles and contributions.
