Kathmandu: A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested two Chinese citizens in possession of two kilograms of gold and Rs 2.4 million in cash.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the suspects, a 34-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, were apprehended at a hotel located in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. Superintendent of Police Kaji Kumar Acharya, serving as the Information Officer for the office, confirmed the arrests and stated that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
In an unrelated case, police have publicly identified two individuals accused of defrauding Rs 2.164 million under the pretense of providing foreign employment opportunities. The suspects, Junu Rana Magar and Sudeep Kumar Yadav, allegedly promised their victims employment in Slovakia and Serbia, respectively. Magar, originally from Barpak Sulikot rural municipality in the Gorkha district and currently residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City, reportedly extracted Rs 310,000. Meanwhile, Yadav, from Gulariya municipality in the Bardiya district, is accused of taking Rs 1.854 million. Both suspects had been unreachable until their recent arrest.
Authorities have transferred Magar and Yadav to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
