Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has stated that the ideology of democratic socialism embraced by BP Koirala holds not only national relevance but also global significance. Speaking at an interaction programme on “BP as the Foundation for National Development and People’s Progress”, Dr. Koirala argued that the country continues to be guided by BP Koirala’s ideology. The event was held to mark the 43rd death anniversary of BP Koirala.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr. Koirala emphasized that the Nepali Congress remains aligned with BP Koirala’s ideology of democratic socialism, despite claims of deviation. He highlighted BP Koirala’s international recognition for his political philosophy and urged the Nepali Congress President to address the ‘take and pay’ provision in the Federal Civil Service Bill.
Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma stressed the need to resolve the dispute surrounding the ‘cooling-off’ clause, urging the current coalition government to act decisively to meet public aspirations. NC Spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat and Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel also praised BP Koirala’s political ideology, emphasizing democratic values, economic prosperity, socialism, and pluralism.
Minister for Youth and Sports Tejulal Chaudhary highlighted the importance of internalizing BP’s thoughts for sustainable development. Additionally, BP Memorial Hospital Chairperson Umesh Jung Rayamajhi acknowledged BP Koirala’s contributions to education, literature, and healthcare, underscoring his lifelong service to society.
