Kathmandu: General Secretary of Nepali Congress, Bishwo Prakash Sharma, has issued a stern warning that the party may withdraw its support from the current government if the cooling-off period recommended by the State Affairs Committee in the Civil Service Bill is reversed.
According to National News Agency Nepal, General Secretary Sharma made these remarks while addressing a talk program organized by the NC Madhyapurthimi municipal committee on BP Memorial Day. He emphasized that the Nepali Congress would be compelled to reconsider its support for the government if the State Affairs Committee’s recommendation for a cooling-off period in the Civil Service Bill is disregarded. Sharma further stated, “Anyone involved in tampering with the Bill to erase the provision of a cooling-off period would be brought to book.”
Sharma expressed hope that any alterations to the Bill concerning the cooling-off provision would be rectified by the National Assembly. He firmly reiterated, “If the Prime Minister directs the removal of the provision, NC won’t continue backing up this government.”
In addition, Sharma mentioned that a thorough discussion would be conducted on the Bill relating to Land within the parliamentary committee. He urged the party leaders and cadres to remain committed to BP Koirala’s thoughts, arguing that if the NC, other parties, and the monarchy had adhered to BP’s principles and ideas, the country might have avoided various challenges such as armed conflict, the abolishment of the monarchy, and other issues.
