Lalitpur: Nepali Congress President and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) is not merely a future aspiration but a current necessity. Speaking at a talk programme organized by the Science and IT Department of the party at its central office in Lalitpur, Deuba highlighted the critical role of IT in delivering public services more efficiently and transparently. The programme was titled ‘AI for Nepal’s Development’.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Deuba stressed the importance of integrating AI into various sectors such as education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, employment, and public service delivery. He noted that the present era is characterized by advancements in science and technology, making AI a crucial component of modern life. Deuba pointed out the conveniences brought about by increased access to the internet, mobile banking, online forms, and widespread use of digital health and education services.

He further elaborated that the Telecommunications Policy, Act, and Regulation implemented during the Nepali Congress’s leadership laid the foundation for current achievements, enabling connectivity in remote areas. However, he acknowledged the need for further efforts to fully exploit IT for enhancing banking, public service, agriculture, and health sectors.

Deuba asserted that these advancements are a result of the liberal and progressive policies adopted by the Nepali Congress. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to promoting social transformation through innovation and technology, and emphasized the importance of collaboration between youth entrepreneurs, researchers, and the private sector to further IT development.

He urged collective efforts to create a prosperous digital Nepal by advancing technology and innovation. The Nepali Congress is actively studying IT-related issues to address them effectively, Deuba noted.
