New delhi: The 7th meeting of the Nepal-India Boundary Working Group (BWG) concluded in India with both countries agreeing to updated modalities for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining boundary pillars along their shared border.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the meeting, which concluded on Tuesday, also highlighted the importance of adopting new technologies in survey and mapping to enhance the efficiency of the BWG and its associated mechanisms. The Nepali delegation was led by Prakash Joshi, Director General of the Department of Survey, while the Indian delegation was headed by Shri Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, Surveyor General of India.
The meeting included a review of the progress made since the 6th BWG Meeting held in August 2019 in Dehradun, as well as the outcomes of the 11th Survey Officials’ Committee (SOC) Meeting held in September 2019. The discussions concluded with both sides signing the agreed minutes and deciding to hold the next SOC meeting in Nepal in August 2025. The next BWG meeting will also be held in Nepal at a mutually convenient date.
The BWG, established in 2014, is a collaborative effort by the Governments of Nepal and India, focusing on the construction, restoration, and repair of boundary pillars and conducting various technical tasks associated with border management.
