Highways Obstructed in Baitadi and Gulmi Due to Landslides and Flooding

Baitadi: The Dasharathchand Highway in Baitadi and various road sections in Gulmi have been rendered impassable due to landslides and rain-triggered calamities.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Ridi-Bamitaksar road section in Gulmi has been completely obstructed following heavy rainfall that began last night. Ganga Bahadur Saru, Information Officer at the District Police Office in Gulmi, reported that a flood in Daharekhola at Satyawati Rural Municipality has fully blocked the road. Traffic on the Ridi-Burtibang route has also been halted due to the river’s flooding.

A team of police personnel has been dispatched from Johang Khaireni, yet debris clearance efforts have not started due to ongoing torrential rains, as stated by Information Officer Saru. Additionally, a flood has been reported in the Badigad river in Gulmi, prompting the District Administration Office to urge residents in riparian areas to exercise caution.

In a similar situation, the Dasharathchandra Highway in Baitadi district is obstructed following a landslide at Jeude in Patan Municipality-4. Balaram Pandey, Spokesperson of the District Police Office in Baitadi, confirmed that continuous rainfall since Monday has led to the road blockage, halting vehicular movement along the highway. Vehicles have been left stranded midway since the landslide occurred early this morning. Police have indicated that efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen the highway.
