13 Jajarkot Residents Missing in Uttarakhand Flashflood


Jajarkot: Thirteen residents of Jajarkot district have gone missing following a flashflood in the Harsil area of Uttarkashi, located in the Uttarakhand State of India. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, leaving families in distress as they await news of their loved ones.



According to National News Agency Nepal, all the missing individuals hail from Kushe Rural Municipality-2 in Jajarkot district. Hari Chandra Basnet, Chairperson of Kushe Rural Municipality, issued a press release on Thursday stating that the locals had traveled to India for employment and have been out of contact since the flood.



Basnet emphasized, “Those 13 people are out of contact with their families after the flood.” He has urged the Foreign Ministry to initiate a search for the missing individuals. Additionally, Basnet noted that other residents from different wards of the rural municipality are also unaccounted for in the affected area of Uttarkashi.



Chief District Officer of Jajarkot, Mekh Bahadur Mangrati, confirmed that Kushe Rural Municipality reported the disappearance of several locals in the flashflood. “I have sent a circular to all local levels and police posts in the district asking them to collect the names of the Jajarkot folks who went missing at Harsil area and have also informed the Home Ministry about this,” CDO Mangrati stated.
