Tanahu: Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport, Kul Man Ghising, has announced that there is no alternative but to terminate contracts if development activities remain stalled. This decisive stance was shared during a program organized at Shukla Gandaki municipality in the Tanahu district.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Ghising emphasized that new contracts would be initiated by terminating existing ones, highlighting that delays in development works are unacceptable. He acknowledged the current stagnation of development projects under provincial governments and expressed an intent to coordinate with these governments to address the issue. The Minister outlined his approach of advancing projects by scrapping ineffective contracts.
Minister Ghising also pointed out the necessity for constructing new bridges and roads in certain areas, along with maintaining some existing roads. Addressing a memorandum submitted by locals of Shukla Gandaki municipality concerning development activities, he committed to discussing the matters with relevant stakeholders upon his return to Kathmandu.
Furthermore, Minister Ghising noted the significant economic impact expected from the Tanahu hydropower project in the district. He mentioned the possibility of offering shares of the project to the local populace, given its complete ownership by the Nepal Electricity Authority.
During his visit, Minister Ghising also inspected the GP Koirala National Centre for Respiratory Diseases located in Shukla Gandaki municipality-5. Board Member Trilochan Lamsal used the occasion to urge the Minister for the installation of a dedicated power line at the hospital. Additionally, Lamsal highlighted the need to advance the agreement process with the Indian government to upgrade the hospital to a 300-bed facility, as outlined in a detailed project report conducted during the tenure of former Health Minister Pradip Paudel.
Executive Director of the Centre, Dr. Ram Kumar Shrestha, provided Minister Ghising with a briefing on the hospital’s services, further underscoring the need for infrastructure improvements at the facility.
