Bardiya: Two members of the same family lost their lives after being struck by an ambulance in Bardiya district this morning. The victims have been identified as Bhumi Lamichhane, 55, and his approximately seven-year-old grandson, Rihan.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the tragic incident occurred at Gulariya Municipality-7. The ambulance, bearing the registration Lumbini Province BAA 0305, was en route to Rajaur of Bardiya from Kohalpur, Banke when it hit the family members. Bhumi Lamichhane, a yoga teacher, was on his way to a yoga camp at the time of the accident, as stated by Superintendent of Police, Saroj Poudel.
In addition to the fatalities, Sita, 50, the wife of Bhumi Lamichhane, and Surya Upadhyay, 66, sustained injuries in the incident. They are currently receiving medical treatment at Nepalgunj Nursing Home.
Police have taken the ambulance driver into custody and seized the vehicle involved. An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway, informed Prakash Singh Karki, Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Bardiya.
