Nepal Reaffirms Commitment to Diplomatic Resolution of Border Dispute


New delhi: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to resolving its ongoing border dispute with India through diplomatic channels. During a press conference at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, Minister Khanal emphasized the Nepalese government’s dedication to addressing border issues through dialogue and diplomatic efforts.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Khanal, who is currently visiting India, reiterated Nepal’s official stance on the disputed territories of Lipulek, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani, asserting that these areas are part of Nepali territory. He noted that Nepal has already communicated its official position on the matter to both India and China.



Minister Khanal highlighted the historical context of the border dispute, referencing the 1816 Treaty that delineated the present Nepal-India border. He expressed confidence that any issues arising from the border can be resolved through diplomatic means and bilateral discussions. Emphasizing the importance of diplomacy, he stated, “We’re for the diplomatic channel to resolve these topics.”



The Foreign Minister also mentioned the report of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG), which was formed through an agreement between the prime ministers of Nepal and India. He stressed the need for this report to be submitted to the respective heads of governments for further action.



In his remarks, Minister Khanal underscored Nepal’s cooperative approach with its neighbors and elaborated on the country’s foreign policy priorities, the status of Nepal-India relations, and Nepal’s role in the international community. The Nepali Embassy extended its gratitude to the media for their participation and expressed hope for continued cooperation in the future.
