Appointment of Judges in Accordance with Constitution, Laws: Minister Chaurasiya

Kathmandu: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, has clarified that it is not feasible to appoint judges beyond the constraints of the constitution and laws. This statement was made in response to inquiries raised by lawmakers during the discussion on the Appropriation Bill, 2082, where Minister Chaurasiya emphasized efforts to uphold the judiciary’s prestige.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Chaurasiya noted the necessity of studying whether a legal arrangement is required to resolve civil disputes through the judicial committee, as outlined under Article 217 of the constitution. He highlighted that the current system provides for a judicial committee to handle such matters.

Minister Chaurasiya also announced that one billion rupees, in addition to the regular budget, has been allocated to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission for Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons. This funding is intended to facilitate investigations into armed-conflict incidents and to offer relief and compensation.

Furthermore, Minister Chaurasiya underscored the Supreme Court’s efforts in digitizing the judiciary sector. This includes filing cases online, accessing case information online, and conducting arguments via video, all measures aimed at ensuring justice is delivered efficiently.
