Parsa: The district disaster management committee in Parsa has implemented a new regulation mandating prior approval for the installation of deep boring water projects.
According to National News Agency Nepal, this decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal. The meeting addressed concerns over the rampant installation of deep boring water projects in the district. The committee aims to regulate these projects to ensure sustainable water use and prevent potential environmental issues.
In addition to the new regulation, the District Agriculture Knowledge Centre has been tasked with providing detailed reports on several agricultural issues. These include the status of paddy seedlings plantation, the condition of transplanted seedlings, and the losses incurred by farmers due to drought. These reports will help in assessing compensation for affected farmers, as stated by CDO Aryal.
Assistant Chief District Officer Babulal Regmi highlighted another significant decision made during the meeting. The committee resolved to request the Ministry of Home Affairs to approach the Government of India. The request seeks to ensure the provision of 850 cusecs of water from the Gandak Canal, as stipulated in the Gandak Agreement between Nepal and India. The current water supply from the canal will also be monitored to ensure compliance with the agreement.
Furthermore, the committee will monitor the number of beneficiaries and the current status of deep boring projects in the district. To facilitate water supply and irrigation, a nine-member committee was formed, led by Chief of District Coordination Committee Niranjan Sah Sonar. This committee will coordinate efforts to improve water access and irrigation facilities in Parsa.
