Birgunj Customs Records Significant Rise in Imports and Exports


Birgunj: The Birgunj customs office has reported a notable increase in both imports and exports for the fiscal year 2081/082.



According to National News Agency Nepal, imports reached a total of Rs 625.9 billion, marking an increase of Rs 82.3 billion compared to the previous fiscal year 2080/81, a rise of 15.14 percent. The leading import was petroleum products, valued at Rs 101.8 billion, followed by soybean crude oil at Rs 57.6 billion. Additionally, machines and spare parts worth Rs 36.63 billion, as well as iron and iron-based goods worth Rs 34.41 billion, were imported.



Exports also saw a significant boost, with goods worth Rs 101.84 billion exported, reflecting an increase of Rs 70.70 billion from the prior fiscal year and an impressive rise of 227.09 percent. The chief of the Birgunj Customs Office, Deepak Lamichhane, noted a substantial growth in both imports and exports during the last fiscal year.



The top exported commodity was refined soybean oil, with 291.491,759 liters valued at Rs 61.45 billion being shipped out. Other major exports included fruit juice and iron and iron-based products.
