Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has expressed a commitment to start a news service in the Tamang language at the National News Agency (RSS). The announcement came after a memorandum was submitted by the Tamang Journalists Association, urging the launch of a Tamang language news service.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Gurung assured the association of his dedication to the initiative. “Sooner or later, we will start a news service in the Tamang language at RSS,” he stated. Currently, RSS provides news services in Nepali, English, Nepal Bhasa, and Maithili languages.
The delegation, led by Association President Netra Tamang, submitted the memorandum to Minister Gurung, emphasizing the need for a Tamang language news service. This move aligns with the declaration made by the Bagmati Province government last year, recognizing the Tamang language as the working language of the province.
The 2021 census of Nepal reports that over 1.423 million people in the country speak the Tamang language, highlighting the significance of this development for the Tamang-speaking community.
