Dolakha: Former Justice at the Supreme Court, Balaram KC, has stressed that expertise and merit should be taken into account while assigning justices in the constitutional bench. He emphasized the importance of meritocracy in the appointment of judges during a program organized by the Dolakha Lawyers’ Society to honor Supreme Court Justices originally from the Dolakha district. KC, who was born in Dolakha district, was feted on the occasion.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the event also honored serving Supreme Court Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal and recently appointed Justice Meghraj Pokharel in recognition of their significant contributions to the judicial sector in the country. KC was born in Boch of Bhimeshwor Municipality, while Phuyal hails from Chyama of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-6 and Pokharel from Jafe of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality.
During the felicitation, KC reflected on his contributions to judicial reform. Justice Phuyal pledged to maintain trust and uphold the dignity of the judiciary in his work. Meanwhile, Justice Pokharel acknowledged the challenging responsibility of working in the Supreme Court and reaffirmed his commitment to diligently discharging his duties.
The program also featured speeches from former Attorney General Mukti Pradhan, senior advocates Laxmi Prasad Uprety and Subhadra Sitaula, and advocate Prabin Pradhan, all of whom expressed their happiness with the achievements of the judges from Dolakha. They shared their optimism about the judges’ potential to serve justice to victims.
Society’s Vice-Chairperson Sahadev Pandey shared that the Society was established to unite legal practitioners from Dolakha district and encourage their meaningful engagement in their field.
