Cooperation Among Three-Tier Governments in Disaster Management Stressed by Home Minister

Kathmandu: Minister for Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, has emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation among the federal, provincial, and local governments in disaster risk reduction and management. Speaking at a program organized at the Home Ministry, Minister Lekhak highlighted that disaster management responsibilities are allocated across these three levels of government.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Lekhak noted the high-risk geography of the region and underscored the necessity for collaboration among the three levels of government to ensure effective disaster preparedness and management. He stated that each of the seven provinces has emergency warehouses, which have been handed over to provincial governments for operation. The Disaster Management Authority remains responsible for the Kathmandu Valley warehouse.

The Minister also stressed the importance of enhancing the capability of emergency warehouses at the local level, as local representatives are closest to the citizens. He further argued that collaboration was essential for early disaster warning and in the post-disaster phases of search, rescue, and rehabilitation.
