Rome: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has stated that embracing digital agriculture and precision technology, along with supporting climate-smart and integrated farming systems through increased investment in agricultural research and advisory services, is a priority for the Nepal Government.
According to National News Agency Nepal, these strategies are designed to integrate climate resilience, gender equity, and digital agriculture to build a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food system that ensures food security, nutrition, and livelihoods for all. Dr. Deuba made these remarks while participating as a panelist in the Round Table on Four Betters for Innovation and Agrifood System Transformation. This event took place on the sidelines of the 44th Session of the General Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy.
During her session, Dr. Deuba highlighted that Nepal has adopted several policy and institutional measures, such as Nepal’s Agriculture Development Strategy, the Food and Nutrition Security Plan of Action, and Nepal’s Food Systems Transformation Strategic Plan (2022-2030). These policies aim to transform and enhance the agricultural sector, ensuring that it meets the needs of the population while addressing challenges such as climate change and food insecurity.
In addition to her participation in the panel, Foreign Minister Rana also met with the Director-General of FAO, Dr. Qu Dongyu, at the organization’s headquarters. Their discussions focused on the partnership between Nepal and FAO in agricultural development, ensuring food security, forest development, and other related matters. Nepal has maintained an active and committed membership with FAO since it joined the organization in 1951.
