Kathmandu: The Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee of the National Assembly, the upper house of the Federal Parliament, today held a discussion on the report related to national parks. The discussions highlighted the importance of building wildlife-friendly infrastructure to ensure the protection of wildlife and reduce human-wildlife conflict.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the committee president, Maya Prasad Sharma, stated that they will move forward through collaboration after discussing in detail how to manage parks and buffer zone areas. He raised concerns regarding the management of mineral resources within national parks, noting the need for a strategic approach.
Committee member Madan Kumari Shah emphasized the importance of constructing ‘underpasses’ and ‘overpasses’ to protect wildlife from vehicular accidents within the park. She also highlighted the necessity for thorough discussions to address issues stemming from complicated legal provisions.
During the discussion, MPs including Sumitra BC, Rukmini Koirala, Shree Krishna Adhikari, and Nara Bahadur Bista recommended engaging with concerned authorities and experts to discuss various provisions related to national parks and buffer zones.
