Sankhuwasabha: The District Administration Office in Sankhuwasabha has urged tourists to avoid the high Himalayan region’s trails due to ongoing rain and snowfall.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the office has issued a notice advising against travel to the Makalu Base Camp and other northern Himalayan region trails until November 1. The warning comes in response to adverse weather conditions, including continuous rainfall and snowfall in high mountainous areas such as the Makalu base camp since Tuesday.
Chief District Officer Sirjana Thapaliya has emphasized the need for caution, urging tourists to refrain from trekking in these areas until the 15th of Kartik (November 1) due to the risks posed by the ongoing weather conditions. The continuous snowfall above 4,000 meters and the increasing cold, coupled with potential shortages of food and other essential supplies, have led to this advisory.
The administration has also reported that more than 200 climbers, including 70 foreigners, are currently at the Makalu base camp. CDO Thapaliya confirmed that rain and snowfall have been affecting the high Himalayan areas, including Makalu and Sabhapokhari in the district.
