DPM Singh Calls to Preserve Newari Arts, Cultures


Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, has emphasized the importance of preserving and passing down Newari arts, literature, culture, and language, describing them as national treasures.



According to National News Agency Nepal, this statement was made during the inauguration of the first national seminar ‘Newa: Technology and Craft Knowledge’ organized by Nepal Bhasa Academy. DPM Singh highlighted the need for the Newar community to actively engage in politics while preserving their heritage.



Deputy-Mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, shared the perspective that linking traditional food, musical instruments, lifestyle, craft, and knowledge with science and modernization would facilitate the new generation in advancing their civilization. She emphasized these elements as the true identities of the Newar community.



Chancellor of the Academy, Malla K Sundar, presented a working paper on ‘Newa Civilization-Newa Technology and Craft Knowledge’, highlighting that the food, paintings, festivals, processions, plays, and research practiced by the Newar community are invaluable assets to the country.
