Lumbini: Preparations for the 2,569th Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day have been completed. Buddha Jayanti is celebrated every year on the full moon day of Baisakh Shukla by organizing various programs in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to inaugurate the main celebration on Monday, as shared by the Lumbini Development Trust during a news conference on Saturday. Member-Secretary of the Trust, Sanuraja Shakya, confirmed that preparations for the Buddha Jayanti program had been completed and that the main ceremony would be held at the International Buddhist Hall and Meditation Centre.
The Trust also announced that special programs would be held for three days to mark the occasion of Buddha Jayanti. As per Buddhist scriptures, Siddhartha Gautama was born on the day of Baisakh Purnima in 623 BC, when Queen Mayadevi, wife of King Suddhodana of Kapilvastu, gave birth at Lumbini Garden on her way to her mother’s home in Devdaha.
