Economic Transformation Thru Tourism: Maoist Centre Chair Dahal

Myagdi: Chairman of CPN (Maoist Centre) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has articulated the potential for economic transformation through the effective management and operation of natural resources. While traveling from Myagdi to Mustang, Dahal, after observing key natural sites such as Bhurung-Tatopani, Rupsey Waterfall, and Andhagalchi in Annapurna Rural Municipality, engaged with local representatives and residents to discuss the prospects of leveraging natural resources to bolster tourism in the region.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Dahal highlighted the significance of the Kaligandaki Corridor road’s condition and the latent potential of natural resources. He pointed out the need for infrastructure development and addressed the issues faced by local communities during his journey from Pokhara to Mustang. He proposed the development of health tourism by safeguarding and enhancing the natural hot springs in Myagdi.

Chairman Dahal underscored the importance of identifying, promoting, and developing natural resources to generate employment opportunities in ongoing hydropower projects within the Kaligandaki and neighboring rivers. He also stressed increasing tourist attraction to the region’s mountains, waterfalls, and scenic beauty, asserting that tourism development could alter the economic conditions of local citizens.

Following a visit to the Bhurung-Tatopani hot spring pond, Dahal engaged in discussions with Bharat Kumar Pun, chairman of Annapurna Rural Municipality, former chairman Dam Bahadur Pun, local residents, and other leaders and activists. During these interactions, local residents called for measures to ensure safe and consistent transportation by mitigating landslides and preventing erosion on the Myagdi section of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road.
