Ethical Code Enforced for Immigration Employees at TIA

Kathmandu: The Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has enforced a moral code of conduct for its employees beginning Friday. Office Chief Bishnu Prasad Koirala announced the implementation of this ethical code with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of immigration services. The newly enforced code encourages employees to interact with service seekers in alignment with international values, principles, and standards of immigration administration.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief Koirala explained that the code is designed to encourage employees to be responsible and sensitive to existing national laws, as well as social and cultural values. With the introduction of these additional ethical guidelines, the immigration services are anticipated to become more prompt, impartial, transparent, predictable, and results-oriented. Chief Koirala expressed hope that the changes will lead to noticeable improvements in service delivery, enhancing passengers’ experiences.

The Department of Immigration has outlined specific directives within the code, requiring staff to greet outgoing passengers with “have a nice journey” and to welcome incoming travelers with “welcome to Nepal.” Additionally, the code emphasizes the importance of limiting questions to those that are necessary and mandates the use of respectful language, particularly when addressing passengers traveling to Gulf countries for employment.

A feedback mechanism has also been introduced, allowing passengers to provide feedback on the services received through a survey comprising 15 points about the office. Participation in the survey is voluntary, offering travelers the opportunity to share their experiences and contribute to service improvement efforts.
