Taplejung: The Suketar Airport in the Taplejung district has not operated any flights for the past two weeks. Not a single flight has resumed from this airport since June 13. The Nepal Airline Corporation had initially resumed flights at the airport in the second week of April after a four-month hiatus.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Station In-charge of NAC, Taplejung, Narayan Kumar Karki, reported that four flights have been canceled since June 15 due to low visibility and fog following the onset of the monsoon season. Passengers have faced issues as the Kathmandu-Taplejung flights, which operate on Mondays and Fridays each week, continue to be canceled.
Karki stated, “Adverse weather is one of the reasons behind the non-operation of the flights. They are compelled to stop the flights due to safety reasons.” The number of air passengers has started decreasing due to the lack of regular flights, forcing some to travel long distances by road. Locals have demanded an alternative to air service and a reliable transport service to address the recurring problem of flight disruption during the rainy season.
