Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced that there will be no issues with garbage management during the monsoon season this year. In previous years, residents of Kathmandu faced significant challenges due to delays in waste collection during the active monsoon period across the country. This year, however, KMC has proactively addressed these issues to prevent such inconveniences.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Sarita Rai, Head of the Environment Management Department at KMC, stated that the road from Piple to the landfill site at Bancharedanda has been repaired. Rai noted that in the past, the Sisdol site was also used for waste deposit with soil capping. With the road repairs completed on time this year, she assured that there would be no hassles related to waste transportation.
Rai further explained that landslides that occurred in some areas from Tinpipla to Sisdol have been effectively managed, with necessary walls constructed at critical spots. Waste management is being carried out in collaboration with private companies in all wards, except for those in the core city area. KMC consists of a total of 32 wards, and approximately 1,600 metric tons of waste are being managed daily from the Valley at the Bancharedanda site.
