Goma, a Brick Kiln Worker, Scores 4GPA in SEE, Aims to Be a Doctor

Goma: Goma Shrestha had just gotten back from planting paddy at a local farmer’s land when the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) 2081 results were released. Eager to know her performance, she checked the results online and discovered she had scored the maximum GPA of 4.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Goma was a student at Mahendragram Secondary School in Changunarayan-8 Sudal, where she sat for the SEE. Her outstanding performance earned her the title of the best student in Changunarayan Municipality and placed her among the top 30 students in Bhaktapur, despite attending a community school.

Goma’s journey to academic excellence began when her family moved from Ramechhap to Bhaktapur due to financial difficulties. Her father, Meen Bahadur Shrestha, shared that they relocated because Goma showed an early interest in studies. At just four years old, Goma enrolled in school near the brick kiln where her father worked.

Balancing her studies with work, Goma helped her parents at the kiln, attending school in the afternoon and assisting with brick laying in the morning. This routine continued until ninth grade, after which she focused entirely on her studies to prepare for the SEE. Her dedication paid off, resulting in her remarkable achievement.

Goma aspires to become a doctor and is determined to pursue her education through a scholarship. Her goal is to study MBS at a medical college in Nepal, with the intent to serve her birthplace and the country selflessly. She acknowledges the hard work required to achieve her dreams and is prepared to meet the challenge.
