Biratnagar: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has emphasized that good governance is a fundamental requirement for strengthening democracy in Nepal. He highlighted this point while addressing the audience at the Mukti Prasad-Yadunath Chapagain Award handover ceremony.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during the event, Koirala, who is also a Member of the House of Representatives, stressed the necessity of honesty among political party leaders to ensure the successful implementation of the federal republic system. He urged his party members to adhere to democratic principles to prevent a potential crisis in democracy.
The ceremony was hosted by the Gurans Library in Biratnagar, where Koirala also remarked on the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability within the current government. He noted the citizens’ high expectations from the coalition government and underscored its responsibility in improving their living standards. He paid tribute to Yadunath Chapagain’s significant contributions to Nepal’s democratic journey and encouraged others to follow his example.
The event also saw speeches from various dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Library, Ranjit Prakash Budhathoki, former chairman Deepak Chapagain, and litterateur Dinesh Raj Subedi, who spoke on the importance of the Gurans Library and the contributions of the Chapagain family to democracy. Established in 2027 BS at Baragachi, Biratnagar-4, the library has been a cornerstone of learning and democratic advocacy. The occasion also honored former minister Hari Sapkota, Mohammad Ansari, and Dr. Pramila Gachhadar for their contributions.
