Pokhara: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has announced that the government is dedicated to organizing elections for the House of Representatives (HoR) on March 5, 2026. The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to this timeline during the inauguration of a regional-level (Gandaki) security seminar in Pokhara.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Home Minister highlighted the government’s efforts in developing an integrated security plan along with the necessary managerial preparations to facilitate the upcoming election. He pointed out that the government’s primary mandate is to successfully conduct the election and transition leadership to a government elected by the people.
During his speech, the Minister reiterated that the election date had been set and confirmed for March 5. He also mentioned ongoing discussions with relevant stakeholders, including political parties, to foster a trustworthy environment for the elections. An integrated security plan targeting the election is already in place, and the strategy will be finalized after evaluating the security conditions in various provinces and districts.
Minister Aryal also addressed the security challenges posed by the September 8-9 Gen Z movement, stating that 70 percent of the prisoners who escaped during the unrest have returned. Efforts to recover looted arms are ongoing, and the government is working earnestly to restore peace and security in the country. He underscored the importance of provincial governments in ensuring the success of the elections.
The seminar saw the participation of security chiefs, including representatives from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force, from all 11 districts of Gandaki Province.
Govinda Rijal, Joint Secretary at the Home Ministry, stated that the event’s goal is to devise a future security strategy and action plan for the province, with a focus on election security plans.
