Govt. Working for Safeguarding the Constitution: Home Minister


Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that the government is actively engaged in efforts to protect the Constitution. During a discussion held by the National Assembly Federalism Enablement and National Concerns Committee, which focused on law and order, he emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding the fundamental legal framework of the nation.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Home Minister highlighted three key security challenges: drug abuse, road accidents, and suicide. He explained that the Ministry is coordinating with its subordinate agencies to address these issues effectively. The Minister stressed that security is essential for both democracy and development. He announced plans for a meeting with stakeholders on border security, which is anticipated to assist in resolving existing border issues.



The Home Minister also revealed that the government is planning to introduce an Act to govern police organizations, replacing the current rule-based regulation. He suggested that local levels should take initiative in addressing problems stemming from the Chhaupadi practice.



Additionally, the Minister noted that the government intends to purchase necessary arms for the police within the current fiscal year’s budget, as per legal provisions. Emphasis is also being placed on infrastructure development and arms procurement to enhance security. He confirmed that the government is ready to implement policy reforms based on recommendations from a high-level committee concerning the visit visa scam.



Committee President Sonam Geljen Sherpa stated that the meeting included all relevant stakeholders to address issues related to law and order. Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi also participated in the discussion, mentioning plans to establish enterprise centers with medication camps and psycho-social counseling in prisons to promote self-correction and righteousness.
