Govt. Working to Resolve Land Related Problems, Says Minister

Kathmandu: Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Balram Adhikari, has announced that the government is actively working to resolve land-related issues in the country. During a ministry-wise question-answer session in the House of Representatives, Minister Adhikari revealed plans to abolish various customary practices associated with land.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Adhikari stated that the government is making necessary legal arrangements to initiate the process of registering land in the name of actual farmers in the upcoming fiscal year, specifically addressing problems related to Birta land. The Land Management Minister highlighted that in 2076 BS, responsibility and financial resources were allocated to the local level to enhance government efforts for the advancement of oppressed communities, including freed Kamaiyas or bonded laborers.

The Land Problem Solution Commission, according to Minister Adhikari, will provide land to freed Kamaiyas, Haliya, Kamlari, Balighare, Harawacharawa, Khali, Doli, and Ukhada, who have yet to be accommodated, at their current places of residence. He also noted that many areas are experiencing Guthi-related issues, and a law is being drafted in consultation with relevant bodies to address these concerns.

Minister Adhikari further mentioned that preparations are underway to finalize the draft of the Guthi Bill, ensuring that it addresses the concerns of stakeholders, as Guthi is a particularly sensitive issue from a religious and cultural perspective.
