Kathmandu: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has called for the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to ensure an ‘impartial’ investigation into an ongoing visit visa scandal. During a National Assembly meeting, party representative Suresh Ale Magar emphasized the need for the Home Minister to step aside, arguing that a fair investigation would be compromised by his continued presence in office, particularly as staff from the Home Ministry are implicated in the controversy.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Ale Magar clarified that while the Home Minister is not being accused of personal misconduct, stepping down would be a moral gesture to enable an unbiased investigation. He also questioned the decision to assign immigration responsibilities to an employee previously involved in multiple scandals.
The assembly session also saw Krishna Prasad Paudel voicing concerns about the escalating COVID-19 cases in India, urging stronger surveillance and testing at the Nepal-India border. Meanwhile, Goma Devi Timilsina called for increased public awareness campaigns regarding COVID-19. Additionally, Sonam Gyaljen Sherpa appealed for urgent relief measures for individuals displaced by natural disasters in the Thame, Solukhumbu district.
Other representatives, including Jagat Bahadur Parki, Nara Bahadur Bista, Narayan Dutta Mishra, Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar, Madan Kumari Shah (Garima), Yubaraj Sharma, and Rajendra Laxmi Gaire, addressed various contemporary issues, urging government action on these pressing matters.
