House of Representatives Meeting Postponed Amid Opposition Protests

Kathmandu: The House of Representatives (HoR) meeting scheduled for today was postponed without entering its business due to protests from opposition parties. The meeting, which was set to address several significant issues, could not proceed as planned.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the opposition parties were steadfast in their demands, which included the resignation of the Home Minister over a visit visa issue and the formation of a high-level probe panel. These demands led to a delay in the commencement of the meeting, originally scheduled to start at 6:30 pm, as opposition lawmakers staged protests by standing up from their seats.

In response to the ongoing protests, Speaker Devraj Ghimire decided to postpone the meeting until 2:00 pm tomorrow. The agenda for today’s meeting included a proposal by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel to initiate general discussions on the upcoming fiscal year’s annual budget. Additionally, Ramhari Khatiwada, Chair of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, was expected to table the Committee’s report on the Bill on Federal Civil Service, 2082.
