Sankhuwasabha: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, emphasized the national significance of the Kimathangka checkpoint bordering China. Minister Khadka highlighted the government’s prioritization of this checkpoint in the Sankhuwasabha district due to its potential for year-round operation. He made these remarks while inaugurating the office of the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project at Chainpur in the district.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Khadka assured that with the checkpoint’s road connectivity, it would operate throughout the year, playing a crucial role in enhancing trilateral relations. He noted the presence of significant hydro projects with Indian investment in Sankhuwasabha and stressed the importance of maintaining balanced relations with both neighboring countries, India and China.
Regarding the newly inaugurated Project Office, the Minister expressed confidence in its ability to sustainably utilize water resources, thereby enhancing agricultural productivity in the district. He indicated that the Project would address technical, managerial, and social aspects of similar initiatives in four districts, including Sankhuwasabha.
Minister Khadka expressed concerns about Sankhuwasabha’s lag in progress despite its abundant natural resources. He mentioned that the budget for the fiscal year 2025/26 was allocated according to public aspirations. He also claimed that his Ministry achieved 80 percent of its targets in the energy sector in the last fiscal year, with a current focus on ensuring development and prosperity.
