Kathmandu: Officials have identified land management as a critical challenge in developing infrastructure for operating electric vehicles by Sajha Yatayat in the Kathmandu Valley.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during a meeting held on Sunday at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, representatives from various agencies and Sajha Yatayat discussed the significant hurdles in ensuring sustainable management and utilization of electric vehicles. The central issue highlighted was the difficulty in securing land required for infrastructure development.
Bhupendra Aryal, CEO of Sajha Yatayat, presented plans for the operation of electric vehicles, which are set to be introduced soon with government support. The discussion included essential components such as parking and holding centers, charging stations, repair centers, and the availability of spare parts, as noted by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s personal secretary, Binod Bahadur Kunwar.
To address these challenges, the meeting appointed the Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Raj Kumar Shrestha, along with Joint Secretary Namaraj Ghimire, to facilitate coordination with line agencies and confirm land allocation within the Kathmandu Valley.
Given the significant pressure on public transportation, the government aims to introduce over 100 electric vehicles in the Kathmandu Valley in the coming months.
