Kathmandu: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has predicted the possibility of light rain starting from the coming Wednesday, which is expected to cause a slight drop in temperature.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the temperature has increased in most areas across the Tarai Madhesh belt and the Kathmandu Valley due to the absence of rainfall. Meteorologist Pratima Manandhar highlighted that western and central parts of the country are currently influenced by westerly and local winds, while most areas in Koshi Province are affected by monsoon air.
Monsoon activity is taking time to spread across the country from the east, as monsoon winds are not yet fully active. Manandhar noted that the heat has significantly increased due to the lack of rainfall, but light rain is occurring in some districts in Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini Provinces today.
Manandhar also mentioned the likelihood of light rainfall in various places, including the Kathmandu Valley, starting Wednesday. She explained, “The temperature will gradually decrease from Wednesday as clouds are forming and rainfall is likely.”
Today, Kathmandu Valley recorded a maximum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, while Bhairahawa, Dhangadi, and Nepalgunj experienced 41 degrees Celsius, the highest in the country. The Department forecasts light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in a few places in Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, with similar conditions expected in a few hilly areas of other provinces from Wednesday.
The Department cautioned that a couple of places in mountainous regions could experience rainfall, potentially affecting people’s lives and road and air transportation. It urged everyone to take necessary precautions and prepare early to minimize the impact of rain-induced disasters.
