Budhiganga: The Manmohan Technical University has announced its plan to produce ayurvedic medicines, marking a significant step in diabetes treatment. Situated in the Budhiganga rural municipality of Morang district, the university is gearing up to manufacture these medicines to aid in the treatment of diabetes.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Vice Chancellor Dr. Subashshree Pokharel unveiled this initiative during a press meet on Monday. He elaborated on the university’s ongoing research focused on treating diabetic patients using medicinal herbs cultivated locally. This academic session, the university is delving into research across ten different topics, with a strong emphasis on diabetes treatment and bacteriophages.
Dr. Pokharel also highlighted the university’s educational strategies, explaining plans to implement skill tests from Grade 6 to 8 following the successful completion of Grade 5 skill tests. Currently, the university accommodates 322 students across bachelor’s and master’s programs in various streams.
Established by the Koshi Province government in 2076BS, Manmohan Technical University is recognized as the province’s first technical university. Despite its pioneering status, the university faces challenges due to insufficient budget allocations from the provincial government. Dr. Pokharel expressed concerns over the financial constraints, noting that only Rs 140 million was allocated against a requested budget of Rs 370 million for the upcoming fiscal year, constituting merely 0.5 percent of the province’s total budget.
