Patan: Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai has been granted bail by the Patan High Court in connection to both banking offences and charges related to the royalist movement.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Justices Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and Munendra Prasad Awasthi ordered Prasai’s release on a bail amount of Rs 2.5 million for the banking offence, citing medical grounds for the decision. Additionally, a separate bench consisting of Justices Tanka Prasad Gurung and Dilli Ratna Shrestha mandated his release on a bail of Rs 300,000 concerning the violent protests linked to the royalist movement last March.
Prasai had been facing charges in the District Court, Kathmandu, for crimes against the state, attempted murder, and criminal offenses, leading to an initial order for his detention during the trial. The Patan High Court’s decision to grant bail followed the hearing of Prasai’s petition challenging the district court’s order.
