Bhojpur: The Temkemaiyung rural municipality in Bhojpur is implementing a strategic policy to transform the Mundum Trail into a spiritual zone dedicated to yoga, meditation, and other spiritual practices. Previously recognized by the Federal Government as one of Nepal’s top 100 tourist destinations, the trail holds significant potential for both spiritual and tourism development.
According to National News Agency Nepal, local authorities emphasize the trail’s natural beauty and tranquility, with plans to establish it as a Tapobhumi, or sacred place for meditation and spiritual practice. This initiative aims to boost its reputation as a tourist destination while preserving its pristine environment by prohibiting road construction in the area.
Rural Municipality Chairperson Saroj Basnet pointed out that the trail traverses high alpine terrain, which could eventually support the development of golf courses and other activities. Vice Chairperson Ramadevi Rai confirmed the establishment of a Tourism Information Centre at Chakhewa to serve visitors, underscoring the commitment to the region’s holistic development and its potential to become a significant Tapobhumi.
The Mundum Trail offers panoramic views of notable peaks such as Charpate, Lhotse Shar, Mera Peak, Mt Peak 38, Chamlang, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Kumbhakarna. Tourism entrepreneur Bibek Kulung noted the trail’s moderate climate, which is suitable for year-round visits, as it is neither as cold as the high Himalayas nor as hot as the Terai.
A major spiritual highlight of the trail is Silichung Peak (Silichung Chuchuro), a revered religious site located at an altitude of 4,153 meters, accessible directly from the Mundum Trail.
