NA Passes Customs Bill, 2080

Kathmandu: The National Assembly has successfully passed the Customs Bill, 2080, marking a significant legislative step towards modernizing the country’s customs procedures. The bill was passed unanimously during a session held on Wednesday.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel presented a proposal during the National Assembly meeting, urging consideration for the approval of the Customs Bill, which had been forwarded from the House of Representatives with a message. Minister Paudel emphasized that the new bill is poised to address issues of customs leakage and aims to streamline customs processes through increased use of technology. The proposed changes are expected to facilitate easier, smoother, and more effective customs clearance once the bill becomes law.

The government introduced the bill to ensure that the customs clearance process becomes more technology-friendly and to amend the existing customs act to align with the Kyoto Convention, an international treaty to which Nepal is a signatory. The Act is scheduled to be implemented on the 91st day following its authentication. The National Assembly is slated to reconvene next Friday.
