Surkhet: The National Para-Sports Competition is set to take place in Surkhet, the capital city of Karnali Province, Birendranagar. The Para Foundation branch office in Surkhet is organizing the event from January 23 to 28.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the competition will feature a variety of events, including a wheelchair basketball competition at the Karnali Provincial Stadium in Birendranagar and a cricket competition at the Kalinchowk cricket ground. Additionally, there will be a wheelchair race covering a distance of five kilometers from the Birendranagar airport to Bangesimal.
All seven provincial and departmental teams are expected to participate in the event, which will also include wheelchair dance competitions. Foundation Chair Kishor Shahi noted that a total of 200 wheelchair users are anticipated to take part in the competitions.
The event aims to encourage individuals with disabilities by demonstrating that they can showcase their abilities if given the opportunity. Chair Shahi ex
pressed that the competition seeks to challenge social perceptions of people with disabilities, draw state attention, promote inclusive sports, introduce para athletes, and convey that the Para National Games can be held in Karnali just like the national games.
It is also noteworthy that Surkhet will host the upcoming 10th National Games.
